Theater and Debate Workshop – Khulna

The “Theater and Debate Workshop,” organized by the UYPĀ  Khulna Center on October 18, 2025, became a unique experience for students in developing confidence, rationality, and leadership. A total of 20 people, including 17 students from three educational institutions, participated in the workshop, which was held at the UYP Center from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday.

The workshop was conducted by Project Officer Sujoy Chowdhury Shamya and Mentor Oiswarjya Nurani Hajera. In the first phase of the workshop, the participants’ shyness and hesitation were overcome through theater-based games and exercises. In fun activities such as “Name and Action,” “Mirror Game,” and “Emotion Circle,” students collectively practiced the courage and focus needed for self-expression.

In the second phase, a session titled “Let’s Learn to Debate” gave the students an understanding of the rules, techniques, and benefits of debate. Mentor Oiswarjya Nurani Hajera explained the structure and key terminologies of a debate, while Afroza Sharmin, Head Teacher of Maulana Bhashani Bidhyapith Girls’ School and College, delivered an inspirational speech on the practical application and life importance of learning debate.

Following this, a brief debate competition, managed by Youth Officer Noshin Tabassum, was held, where students were divided into ‘pro’ and ‘con’ sides to express their opinions vividly. In the closing ceremony, the guests expressed satisfaction with the students’ participation and called for the formation of school-based debate clubs in the future.

Ismail Hossain, Assistant Professor, Khulna College, said: “Debate and theater unlock the critical thinking of young people. Expressing one’s thoughts through language is a form of leadership.”

The workshop concluded with a prize distribution and a commemorative photo session for the participants. This all-day event instilled new enthusiasm, confidence, and creativity among the students.

Project Officer Sujoy Chowdhury Shamya said: “Today’s workshop is not just training in public speaking; it is a journey of mental development—where one learns the techniques of listening, reasoning, and expressing opinions courteously.”
